Why not Gentoo?

Quite the contrary! Triton OS wants to bring Gentoo to the Raspberry Pi. Standard Gentoo requires compiling each package you install, which is often beyond the means of the Raspberry Pi. Gentoo does provide binary packages, but they are compiled to be compatible with all 64-bit ARM processors. With Triton OS, packages are compiled to support only the specific 64-bit ARM architecture of your Raspberry Pi. You get all of the optimizations of a source-based distribution, with the speed and convenience of a binary-based distribution.

Triton OS

Gentoo Linux is a highly configurable source-based Linux distribution. When you install a package in Gentoo, it downloads the sources and compiles them with and without certain features based on your preferences, as written in your configuration files. Gentoo supports a binary-based mode in which it downloads precompiled sources when you install a package.

Triton OS is a preconfigured Gentoo installation that is highly optimized for the Raspberry Pi. It runs in binary mode and downloads Pi-optimized binaries from the Triton package host. Packages are optimized for either the Pi 3, 4 or 5.

Triton OS is released every six months aligned to the start of the year. The installation image is freely available for download using the links below. To access additional software not included in the installation image, please purchase a subscription to the package server. This helps support development and offset costs. I really appreciate it!
